Trip to Munch-réal Part Deux: Galiano's

If you've never heard of Odwalla then let Tastebuds fill you in. Born almost more then 25 years ago and started by 3 friends and a so called "box of oranges" rumour has it Odwalla also stemmed from the inspiration to live well. We cant forget the musical piece entitled "Odwalla" from an Art Ensemble in Chicago that played a major role in the company due to the fact that in the poem Odwalla was a leader who guided “the people of the sun” out of the “gray haze”. Similar to how the delicious products help humans break free from the dull mass of over-processed foods that is so prevalent today. With a variety of flavors to pick and choose and a new line of nutritious nutri grain bars eating healthy probably never taste so good. Co-sign!! Oh and forgot to mention I'm personally really interested in trying "Poma Grand"...My gf's cousin Fatima took us to a spot on St. Denis called Mont Royal where apparently, they serve the best poutine ever. for those that know me, I am a FIEND for poutine. Not being born in Canada and having to be accustomed to the Canadian culture at a young age to blend in meant playing hockey, eating bagels and eating poutine. I did all three and only stuck with the latter.

Mont Royal was no different from any greasy spoon joint and had a very straight forward menu. So I ordered the smoked meat poutine and I would have to say that it ranked #2 on my top 3 list of best poutines. (#1 being a local spot at the old hood). It was simply spectacular; words cannot express how good the poutine was so I hope this photo helps. I won't lie I couldn't finish it but if my stomach was a bit emptier beforehand, I would've devoured that plate with ease.

Smoked Meat Poutine

Hot Dog, Green Peppers & Onions Poutine.
The other variation we tried was the mont royal signiature poutine which included green peppers, mushrooms and slices of hot dogs. Very yummy as well.
If you're visiting Montreal and happen to be in this section of the Plateau area and love poutine as much as I do then pay Mont Royal a visit. Just make sure you're with someone that has certified First-Aid training just in case you have a triple bypass. Don't say that I didn't warn you.

Popular with a lot of Brits, Kiwi's and Ozzy's (England, New Zealand, Australia) this spread is a morning favorite for most people hailing from these territories. Most Vegans or Vegetarians are pretty phsyced off Marmite! If you still don't know what Marmite is it's actually a sticky, dark brown paste with a very distinctive strong taste. Extremely salty references say this taste can be compared to Soy sauce. Marmite believes to be the underdog on top due to there slogan "Love it or Hate it" because some either like or dislike me personally not a big fan but I remember my grandfather going nuts over Marmite. Usually eaten on toast this spread is generally enjoyed in the am hours of the day. Some enjoy this so much that they've gone on to create fan sites. If you get a chance try and if you don't enjoy it do not blame it on me.

In almost every city I have ever traveled to, there has always been a souvlaki or pita spot that claims its authenticity in Greek cuisine. And although they all serve equally satisfying meals, I have never tasted such perfection as I have at Toronto’s own Messini Authentic Gyros. Situated in the heart of Danforth, people can experience the city’s greatest tasting Gyro while dining in a comfortable, well-designed atmosphere.
If you visit Brooklyn or plan on visiting Brooklyn Joe's Superette is the place to get an authentic taste for Brooklyn food as well as culture. Founded in 1960 Joe's has been serving Carrol Gardens with the infamous rice ball.
I know your saying what so special about a rice ball? These are no ordinary rices balls. They are a true delicacy and come in three different varieties. The prosciutto ball (my personal favorite), the rice and meat ball and for the vegans and vegetarians just rice and cheese. Each one will run you 50 cents and that's not the rapper that's the price which is more then fair for the quality of the food. The rice balls are deep fried to really give it that extra taste that baking simply will not. The man behind the counter has been molding these delicious treats since 1975 and the service is top notch. However I recommend waiting till around 2pm to miss the lunch crowd or you will wait at least a half hour.
A small price to pay but i like to get mine as soon as possible. I've been eating at Joe's for over 10 years and have never been disappointed. Joe's Superette has become a staple to the neighborhood as well as a kept secret. Thank you Joe for keeping Brooklyn fed with the best rice balls money can buy.
